Glide's Pilot Rollout is Underway!

Last month, I shared with the Glidance community my experience finishing a route around our Seattle lab alone with Glide — no team behind me, no phone in my pocket — and what that kind of independence felt like.

This month, something happened that means even more to me: other people started to do the same.

In the past few days, for the first time, Gliders other than me have been walking solo with Glide as their primary mobility aid — in their own neighborhoods, on their own routes, doing the ordinary things that make up a day. Onto the bus and off again. Across the crossings they already know by heart. Not in our lab, not on a course we built, but in their lives.

That is the moment we've been working toward. It's why I can tell you that our Pilot Rollout has begun.

Getting our first pre-production devices ready for this took a few weeks longer than we'd hoped. Our new units came with a more powerful chip, a new electronics platform, and a long list of improvements, and they needed time to stabilize before we could trust them in our community's hands and out on their routes. That time was worth taking. The devices we're walking with now feel solid and real.

For our Pilot Rollout, we're starting with a small group of Founding Gliders, working with each person one-on-one and in-person, and growing from there as device availability and real-world success allow. Two Gliders, then four, then eight, sixteen, thirty two, and so on.

Over the coming months, our goal is to work with these early Gliders - walking their routes alongside them until the day they turn to us and say, in so many words, "I've got it from here." That moment, when our Pilot Rollout customers are ready to keep the device and we step back, is the truest signal that Glide is doing its job.

At that point, we will shift into what we call "Production Rollout", which is when we begin shipping final, fully-manufactured Glide devices to all of our preorder customers - and eventually move into opening up new sales of Glide.

Glide is already proving itself a real and fully-fledged mobility aid, and we know that the sky's the limit from there. We're excited to take this leap with our community, and wanted to share some of the latest footage and content we've been capturing below. Enjoy!
